About Us
Dave's love of coffee and science brought him to attempt roasting beans in a homemade drum roaster in the backyard years ago. After meeting Jess, fellow coffee lover (snob) and entrepreneur, the experimenting started to evolve and we upgraded to a real coffee roaster. We were able to roast beans for the family every week, and it was really special sharing coffee with guests and friends.
Eventually, as Dave perfected his roasting skills by spending hours doing research, watching YouTube videos, and narrowing down the best beans, neighbours and locals started wanting to purchase our beans for their own machines. That was the beginning of what we call the "Coffee Jar Phase", where we did a take-a-jar-leave-a-jar deal. Locals could purchase a jar of roasted beans, and then return the jar for another one. From there, the business grew and grew, and we had to upgrade the roaster again. Fast forward a few years, and we deliver to dozens of homes around Whakatane and Pukehina area every week, and provide wholesale beans to multiple great cafes & coffee carts.
What started as a hobby and science experiment has now evolved into a high-quality coffee roasting business, and we couldn't be more proud!
About Our Coffee
We put a lot of effort and time into finding the best quality and flavour beans possible. It's always top priority that we use only Fair Trade & Organic or Rainforest Alliance Arabica beans.
The beans we finally settled on are grown in the Mountains of Central America and Peru.
Our Matata Roast is medium to dark and was specifically created for real coffee lovers.
Our Pikowai Roast is for those who prefer a lighter roast with more of the bean-origin flavours!
We use compostable paper packaging and offer whole beans, or we can grind them for you.
4-week subscriptions are now available to make sure you never run out! We deliver to the Whakatane area every Wednesday, and Pukehina every Tuesday, or can ship the beans to you anywhere in NZ.
